ladybirds bleed from her heart
hundreds of them morass inside her chest
their flecked wings start to stir
and ready themselves for take-off
her heart has no choice
it clings to the ladybirds' rising wings
nothing can stop the flight of her heart
and the hundred wings
her sternum breaks open
and her rib cage cracks and splinters
those with wings
will fly free
