A vision of the Essensual Beginning

In Hogsback I live on the property of deep-ecology artist Diana Graham, The Ecology Shrine (www.ecoshrine.co.za). I feel at home here, utterly myself and at peace. My mind and body gets a thrill each time I see the view of the Amathola Mountains from the front door. Through all seasons this place never ceases to enchant. Yet when it is firefly season the garden has an added allure. To be able to call this home for some odd months of the year gives my nomadic bones a very needed sense of rootedness. The Shrine has inspired me to many a writing. Here one of them >

 The Shrine
A vision of the Essensual Beginning

in the beginning there was
the sound
the vibration
in the beginning there was you
you in all
and all in you
in the beginning there was the dark space
lighted by throbbing fireflies
in the beginning this was the Shrine
that would enclose you
as you walk in
a place of far and close
wet and dry
young and old
growth and death
in the beginning it was it all
all that could be felt and heard and seen
and smelt and tasted
and it was good
in the beginning there was no word
nothing was said
only slow deep breathing
pulsing life through
thoughtlessness
in the beginning there was no ideas
or vision
of future
just pristine vacuity
a clarity of
The Now
A pure presence of the senses
nothing more
nothing less
simply
 Essensuality
