the
excavation of the Self
the
superficial i-xploration
from
where this will to make
a
photographic portrait of the Self?
the
capture of the hero of your own story
the
desire to be your own celebrity
the
documenting, websiting,
blogging,
tweeting,
facebooking
and instagramming
of
the Self and for the Self
the
strange 21st century tendency to expose the Self
on
the brickless walls of cyberspace
why
do we want to sit in a cold photo-booth
to
be captured by a machine?
it
is so passé to be captured by bureaucratic eyes
and
offered onto the lense of Big Brother
with
drab and smileless faces
we
will press the camera-button ourselves to
photograph
our rehearsed smiles, why thank you!
how
many extra centimetres our necks and
arms will have to grow
we
refuse to ask anyone to do it for us
we
will do it ourselves, we insist
welcome
the Selfie: where the Self is in control of the Self
- we believe and hope so -
we
want to be the rulers of our own fate
designers
of our own roads
publishers
of our own faces
we
refuse to be automatons in
the
soulless mechanics of existence
we
will glow
we
will be beautiful
we
do not need catwalk-mouths to
pose
and pout for us
we
will smile our own smiles
and
steer in our own direction
the
time that we wait for someone to
choreograph
our fate is long past
it
is now the time that we empower our own lives
and
it begins with
the Selfie
the Selfie
